Shakshuka with tuna


This is one of my favorite North African / Arabic dishes, it can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and if you haven’t tried it yet, you are missing out.

This version of shakshuka is a healthy low carb combination of tuna chunks in smoky chili tomato and onion/garlic sauce, topped with poached eggs and cheddar.


Ingredients: • 1 tbsp olive oil • 1 small onion, chopped • 2 garlic cloves • 250 ml tomato sauce • 260 g canned tuna chunks (I used Shines Wild Irish tuna from 1kg pouch)

• 4 eggs • 100 g of cheddar • Seasoning: salt, pepper, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, parsley

Preparation: • In a pan with a lid, heat up 1 tbsp of olive oil and fry the onions until they start to brown. Add garlic and fry for a minute more. Pour 250 ml of tomato sauce into the pan and add the tuna chunks. Season to your taste and cook on low until the sauce thickens • Using a spoon, make 4 dips/ small nests in the sauce for the eggs. Crack each egg and carefully place it into the nests, season with a pinch of salt, cover with the lid and cook for about 3 minutes. Top with cheese, cover with a lid again and cook for a few more minutes until the eggs are done. Enjoy ❤️
